ARA-290 10mg research vial
ARA-290, also called cibinetide, is an 11 amino acid lab-made peptide; one 10mg vial costs 2,900,000 VND ($115 USD). Both phase 2 trials and the rat study below link to PubMed; ARA-290's price is from a check on 11 October 2026.
What is ARA-290?
ARA-290 is modelled on the shape of EPO, short for erythropoietin. EPO is the hormone that tells the body to make red blood cells.
Research describes it as acting on a tissue repair receptor without raising red blood cells.
ARA-290 in small phase 2 trials
- Human trial, 2017. 64 people with sarcoidosis and nerve fiber loss joined a 28 day phase 2b trial with a placebo group. The team counted nerve fibers in the cornea, the clear front of the eye.
- Human trial, 2015. A 28 day phase 2 study with a placebo group enrolled people with type 2 diabetes and nerve pain. It measured blood sugar control and nerve pain scores.
- Animal study, 2013. Rats with nerve swelling were tested for pain from touch and pain from heat. Heat pain did not change.
The human trials are small, short phase 2 studies, the early stage of testing. The rest is animal research.
How to read this
ARA-290 is one of the few peptides here with human trials that used a placebo. Still, size and length matter: 64 people for 28 days, and a similar short phase 2 study in diabetes, are early steps. The eye measure is a count of nerve fibers in the cornea, not how anyone felt. The rat work checked two kinds of pain, touch and heat, in one model. Read the whole set as a careful start.
The ARA-290 paper trail
The 2017 trial was published in Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science. It was a phase 2b trial with a placebo group. It ran for 28 days and counted nerve fibers in the cornea, the clear front of the eye. The 2015 study, in Molecular Medicine, was phase 2 and also 28 days long. The 2013 rat study appeared in Neuroscience. Phase 2 is an early step in testing: a small group and a short time, before any large trial. In papers, ARA-290 also goes by cibinetide, so a search under both names finds more of its record.

Questions about ARA-290
What has research on ARA-290 looked at?
Nerve fiber loss and nerve pain, in two small 28 day human trials with placebo groups, and in rats.
Is ARA-290 the same as EPO?
No. ARA-290 is an 11 amino acid peptide modelled on the shape of EPO, the hormone behind red blood cell production. Research describes it as acting without raising red blood cells, which EPO does.
What does EPO stand for?
Erythropoietin, the hormone that tells the body to make red blood cells. ARA-290 copies the shape of part of EPO but was designed not to raise red blood cells.
How much has been published on ARA-290?
We searched PubMed on 18 October 2026 and found 86 records under ARA-290 or its other name, cibinetide. The two phase 2 trials and the rat study on this page are among them, and both trials lasted only 28 days.
