Tesamorelin 20mg research vial
Tesamorelin is a lab-made copy of GHRH; one 20mg vial costs 4,300,000 VND ($170 USD). Each of the three tesamorelin trials below links to PubMed, and its price comes from our 11 October 2026 check. Tesamorelin is also the active ingredient of a prescription medicine. This vial is a research compound, not that medicine, and nobody has approved it for human use.
What is Tesamorelin?
GHRH is the natural hormone that tells the pituitary gland to release growth hormone. Tesamorelin copies it.
Unlike most peptides here, it has been studied in placebo-controlled human trials. All three listed here were in one group of people.
Good to know
Because all three trials listed here were in adults with HIV, tesamorelin is one of the clearest examples on this site of research that belongs to one group of people.
Tesamorelin in three placebo trials in HIV
- Human trial, 2007. 412 adults with HIV and belly fat build-up joined a 26 week trial with a placebo group. Deep belly fat was measured by CT scan.
- Human trial, 2014. 50 adults with HIV and belly fat build-up were followed for 6 months against a placebo, with belly fat and liver fat measured.
- Human trial, 2019. 61 adults with HIV and fatty liver joined a one year double-blind trial with a placebo group, and liver fat was the measure.
All three are randomized, placebo-controlled trials. All three enrolled adults with HIV, most with belly fat build-up or fatty liver, so they describe that group of people and no one else.
How to read this
Tesamorelin has three randomized, placebo-controlled human trials listed here. The catch is who took part. All three enrolled adults with HIV, most with belly fat build-up or fatty liver linked to it, and they ran from 26 weeks to a year. Outside that group, these trials say nothing either way.
The Tesamorelin paper trail
The 2007 trial, in the New England Journal of Medicine, enrolled 412 adults with HIV and measured deep belly fat by CT scan. The 2014 trial ran in JAMA with 50 adults, and the 2019 trial in The Lancet HIV with 61 adults who also had fatty liver. Every person in them had HIV, so the results describe that group only.
